The wonderful Damien Rice graced Brooklyn with his presence on October 17th. I have been busy in the edit suite since then so had not had time to post this. Oh, and he was joined on stage by the amazing Glen Hansard.

I shot these in LA at a fashion // model party. I don’t know what the band is called. I do know that the bass player is a fashion designer and was on Project Runway, his name is Jeffrey Sebelia. UPDATE: I have now found out that the band was called Sing Orpheus and has broken up. They were a great band.

In memoriam. I had lived in NY for just under 6 months when the Twin Towers went down. I had just visited Windows of the World a few weeks earlier, in August. It was a heartbreak initially and a heartwarming later when I experienced the true spirit of New Yorkers in the aftermath.

Katrin was the New York Sales representative at Smuggler while the Snorri Brothers were there. Wonderful friend and human being. She’s also very photogenic and this shot of her for the Thoughtful series is one of my favorites. We shot it near her office in SoHo when she was working for Rabbit Content. It was late in the day, golden sunlight was streaking in between buildings in SoHo and Katrin turned on her charm (she told me she used to be a model after this shoot, I was not surprised)

Today is Sjón’s birthday, may he live another 50 years. Happy Birthday!
Sjón is a wonderful poet and writer, a massive influence on me in my formative years, a frequent collaborator with Björk and an all around wonderful friend and human being. I’m a better man for knowing him. Thank you.

This picture of master editor Maury Loeb was shot during an edit. It is taken on the rooftop deck of PS. 260, the edit house in NY. Maury has cut a bunch of my projects, one of which (Crash) resulted in an AICE award for Maury for best VFX Editing.

This shot is an impromptu shot that became part of the inspiration for the series Thoughtful. I was shooting a campaign in South Africa and Topher was a producer at Grey, which I was working for. We had just had a wonderful lunch at a restaurant in the wine country close to Cape Town. After lunch we wandered out into these cricket grounds which turned out to be the perfect back drop for Topher’s portrait. Thanks to Bev and Joel of Gatehouse Commercials for a wonderful meal.

A chilly winter day in New York, wandering the streets with my camera. I like the casual nature of this shot and the fact that this woman seems to have noticed that I’m shooting from the hip and that I just barely caught her eyes.

I shot this picture of Lay Low (Lovísa) after a gig at a small coffee shop in the East Village. This is shot in the middle of traffic on Park Avenue South by Union Square on a hot summer night. I later did a music video to one of her songs. She’s a wonderful artist and collaborator.

Nuutti is a friend that lives in New York City. As the name suggests he’s from Finland and he’s a rock star. This portrait was shot impromptu near his laundromat in the East Village. I was hanging out with him and a mutual friend doing laundry one day and we got this great shot of him. Photogenic guy.

On one of David’s visits to my studio in Brooklyn we snapped this picture. David is one of my oldest collaborators and friends in the film business. We directed a music video for Icelandic band Vinyl in 2002. I had just gotten a new Leica 50mm for my 5D and was excited to try it. Beautiful portrait of a beautiful man.

Mínus are an incredibly tight and aggressive Hardcore band from Iceland. I shot this in Spessi’s studio Frystihúsið in Iceland circa 2007.

I went to JZ’s apartment in Manhattan’s East Village to get this shot. His place was the greatest, graffiti and tags, 100s of decks and shoes piled up. He’s a true skater and his mission is to skate the most impossible places around the world. He also has a skate / clothing line called Natural Koncept.
More about JZ and his line here: www.naturalkoncept.com

New York is kind of an endless stream of people and activity. I love grabbing a camera and go out and shoot stuff in the city. You never know what you’ll get. Like this very expressive and authentic New York woman.
Krummi came to a session with me in Spessi’s studio “Frystihúsið” in Kópavogur, Iceland.
The shoot was a band photograph for his band Mínus. I shot all members of the band individually and composited a few band photos from that. This individual portrait of Krummi is very special to me. His inner silence juxtaposed with his raised and tense hands says so much about him. He is a wonderful subject.

This is Paulie Z the front man of the Brooklyn band ZO2 playing Arlene’s Grocery, NY circa 2008. Rock ‘n’ Roll.

Björn Baldvinsson, Producer, Los Angeles circa 2009
Björn is one of my oldest friends and a long time collaborator of mine, the Snorri Brothers and beyond. At one point we even played in a band together for a very short minute. This picture is part of the Thoughtful series that exhibited in New York in 2011. Thank you Björn.
D. Foy still from an upcoming promo for his book Made to Break coming out on Two Dollar Radio in 2014.
Icelandic Musician Biogen (02/24/1976 – 02/08/2011) in Brooklyn 2009
